Maker Music: Rainsticks explores how rainsticks, a musical instrument used by indigenous cultures around the world including Indigenous Australians, can be constructed using and reusing materials. Additionally, students will explore the effects of push and pull through gravity on the materials used in the construction of the rainsticks.

Maker Music: Rainsticks supports lessons and learning through the students learning, or consolidating, a range of skills, including but not limited to:

  • Exploring how the principles of push and pull are used in the design of toys.
  • Observing the way different shaped objects move.
  • Exploring different ways to produce sound using familiar objects and actions.
  • Exploring how available materials can be used or re-used in construction play.
  • Observing and describing ways different and unusually shaped objects move when rolled down a slope.
